One day walk through Bacelona City Center
Welcome to our city: Barcelona; If you can only spend one day in our city, we suggest you a walk through the center of the city, ideal to do quietly with children. Wide pavements and pedestrian streets will make your visit an unforgettable day for the whole family.
Let’s start the tour
We begin our journey in Passeig de Gracia – Diagonal. Going down this wonderful street we can perfectly see the design of the Eixample of Barcelona (Ildefons Cerdà – 1860). On this street we find several representative buildings of the Catalan modernism of the city of Barcelona, such as Casa Milà and Casa Batllò (Antoni Gaudí).
We continue our journey, always straight until we reach Plaça Catalunya, where parties and events are constantly held. We go down Portal de l’Àngel until we reach Plaça de la Catedral, where we find one of the doors to the old walled city of BARCINO. From Portal de l’Àngel to Mercat de la Boquería, all streets are pedestrian.
I strongly recommend visiting the cloister of the cathedral (free entrance at certain times), the square of Sant Pelip Neri, the Pont dels Canonges and Mont Taber and the Temple of Augustus (1st century BC), all of them very close to the Cathedral from Barcelona. All these corners will move you to past times.
Five minutes walk we reach the market of La Boqueria (closed on Sundays) an ideal place to eat, full of restaurants where they cook the fresh products sold in the market. This market is a delight for all the senses. I could spend hours walking around their stops!
Finally, a walk along the Ramblas, the most emblematic boulevard in Barcelona is an unforgettable experience. Going down the Ramblas we will reach the statue of Columbus and the Port Vell, where we find beautiful sailing boats.
