LA BOMBONERA – LA GARRIGA -MODERNIST LISTED HOUSE in BARCELONA
We can consider ourselves lucky; We are seldom given the opportunity to sell a declared property as a cultural heritage of national interest. Contradictory feelings when selling a work of art, on the one hand the pleasure of being able to enjoy it with clients, on the other the pain of knowing that soon you will get rid of it.
When Mrs. Cecília Reig i Argelagós and Manel Joaquim Raspall shook hands, they could not imagine what that squeeze would mean.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the fashion of spas led the Catalan bourgeoisie to build summer residences near the hot springs. La Garriga, with its Blancafort spa, less than forty kilometers from Barcelona, was one of its favorite destinations.
Manuel Joaquim Raspall, municipal architect of La Garriga, was a pupil of the modernist masters Domènech i Muntaner and Puig i Cadafalch. Inspired by modernism designed the 4 houses of the “mansana Raspall”, the Bombonera green, the Barbey House, pink, the yellow Iris Tower and the house Antoni Barraquer, blue, were declared cultural assets of national interest in 1997.
The house that occupies us is “La Bombonera”. Built in 1910
It is one of his best works, the green color, beyond the sgraffito, appears in ceramics, garden fences and windows, printing a unique personality. From the street we can already appreciate the magic of this house, the entrance is formed by a low stone wall with green and white ceramic pieces, and a wrought iron grate worked in “coup de fouet”
The facade is stuccoed in green and white. Its doors and windows are semicircular and are closed with a mobile wooden booklet blinds, with floral motifs. The window panes are leaded.
On the ground floor we find a splendid hall that gives access to a gallery with leaded glass and views of the garden.
Two double rooms share a bathroom with shower. The kitchen is adapted to current needs.
All with the smallest detail; wrought iron radiators with floral slits, hydraulic floors and tiled at medium height with typically modernist design.
On the first floor we find a large suite with bathroom with bath and shower.
It has access to a large terrace and a balcony overlooking the garden.
The floor that access to the garden consists of 3 rooms, machine room, laundry room and a bathroom with shower.
In the garden we find a beautiful porch or summer dining room from where we can enjoy its rear facade.
